How Tall is a Standing Desk?
A common question people ask about standing desks is: how high should the desk surface be? This is especially important because the height of the person using it is so variable, so there is no one size fits all answer. Even so, there are a few ways to make sure your standing desk is at exactly the right height.
What Happens if My Standing Desk is Too Low or Too High?
One of the most common standing desk mistakes is having it too low. What users often do is reach lower, creating muscle tension that leads to pain arm and back pain. Users of low standing desks often also end up slouching or slumping. A desk that’s too high can cause similar issues, except in the opposite direction.
These height disparities can happen when we cobble together our own makeshift “standing desks” with books or shoeboxes on a countertop that is already at standing height. You don’t want to wait until the discomfort or strain settles in on your shoulders and your back and force you to reconfigure your home desk setup–it’s a far better approach to make sure your desk is at the optimal height before you ever start using it.

How to Choose the Right Standing Desk for Your Home Office
With a standing desk used primarily at home, you can let loose a little bit and look more into fashion-forward designs that fit your personal style. In addition to asking yourself where it'll be used most, also consider its size in your decision process. This is especially true if you’re shopping online and you're not able to place standing desks side-by-side in order to compare them.
Depending on your standing desk needs, you have several options available when it comes down to the standing desk itself. There are fixed standing desks that do not move or adjust, height-adjustable standing desks where you can choose any number of heights between sitting and standing positions, plus all kinds of different standing desk options in between.
The StandDesk sit-stand desk is designed with adjustability in mind. No matter what desk you choose for your personal style, you can rest assured that it will stand the test of time. Here are some of our favorites:

How to Make Your Desk the Right Height
Adjusting your standing desk is a simple two-step process:
Step One: Stand At Your Standing Desk
You’ll be doing this a lot anyway, so you might as well give it a try! In all seriousness, this is why you bought a sit-stand desk in the first place, so it makes sense to call it out as the first step. Make sure you’re standing at a comfortable posture with your back straight. If you don’t have great posture before you got a standing desk, now’s the perfect time to start! Don’t get too ambitious, though–make sure you’re picking a height that’s comfortable. This will make you more likely to maintain it, and reduce any just-started soreness.
Step Two: Line it Up
Your elbows should be bent so that your arms are at a 90-degree angle, and the top of the monitor should line up with your eye level. Are you keeping that straight posture? Are you feeling energized, attentive, and engaged with your work? If not immediately, you will be soon!
Step Three: Bonus Step!
If you find this height isn’t working for you, then you might need to adjust it a little as time goes on. Ergonomics is not a perfect science, especially when it comes to new ways of doing things we’ve always done a different way.
Congratulations! You’re on your way to that engagement, energy, and attentiveness we mentioned before. You’ve taken your first steps into a happier, healthier lifestyle.
